A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in the Richardson, Texas area partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor two local veterans. As part of this event, the Fairway branch held a residential housing “boot camp” to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to best handle the home-purchase needs of active duty military members and veterans.
The first honoree was a Vietnam veteran who was given a grant designed to help underwrite renovations to make his home and the home of his father-in-law (a World War II veteran and D-Day survivor) handicap-accessible. The second honoree was a Navy veteran who had been on a waitlist for a service dog. Thanks to Fairway and the American Warrior Initiative, she was able to come off the waitlist and be given a service dog.
“An amazing event!” branch manager and event host Marc Wood said. “It is so fun to discover how we are all connected. We were able to recognize and assist a local veteran who is a family friend of one of our former co-workers. She brought the need to our attention, and Fairway managers, local real estate agents and AWI answered the call to help with some much-needed accessibility renovations.”
Co-founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.
